German-born Nigerian defender Derrick Abu has been promoted to Chelsea’s first team ahead of their forthcoming London derby clash with Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Saturday.
The 18-year-old right-back who was born in Regensburg town to Nigerian parents has been a regular for the Blues U18 side.
Abu was invited by new Chelsea manager Graham Potters and was a picture in training along with France international N’Golo Kante at Cobham Training Center.

According to Football London report that the youngster was seen together with three of African descent of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, and Edouard Mendy while Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Kepa Arrizabalaga also took part in the session.
Abu first played for the Chelsea academy at U11 level following a successful trial and after he was spotted by the Blues scout whilst playing for a grassroots club at a tournament in Spain.
The Nigerian made his season debut for the development squad against Crystal Palace in a Premier League 2 match on September 17.
But it’s unclear at this time if Potter will select Abu for Chelsea’s matchday lineup against Crystal Palace on Saturday.
