The U20 African Championship winner Obinna Nwobodo has the top European club of Göztepe S.K for Major League Soccer team FC Cincinnati after putting to paper on the deal.
The 25-year-old tough-tackling Nigerian star’s switch to America comes as a huge surprise for many as the NPFL player is one of the most dominant central midfielders in the Turkish Super Liga
Nwobodo made the most tackles (121) and the most ball recoveries (432) plus (772) pressures this season. His 93 interceptions also rank among the best in the Turkish Super Lig this season.
However, according to Major League Soccer outfit, FC Cincinnati confirmed the capture of former Enugu Rangers star via the club’s official website and social media by saying the Nigerian ace will move to TQL Stadium giants on a three-year contract that will run through 2024, with an option to extend until 2025.

Nwobodo will join the club as a Designated Player and occupy an international roster spot, pending receipt of his P-1 Visa and International Transfer Certificate.
Former Flying Eagles midfielder started his career with FC Inter Enugu before he switch to Rangers international as he helped the Enugu-based team to win the Nigeria Professional Football League title in 2016.
However, he began in abroad journey following his triumph in the Nigerian top-flight league where he joined Ujpest on a three-year contract after his spell in Hungary he move to Göztepe. He had since turned into a vital figure on Stjepan Tomas’ side.
Nwobodo made 62 appearances and no goal to his credit across all competitions since arriving in Turkey in September 2020 as Cincinnati will hope the tough tacking midfielder can help the club founded three years ago to finish better than their 14th-placed in the Eastern Conference of the MLS last season.
