Federico Valverde and Marco Asensio were the heroes in the clash against RB Leipzig as they helped Real Madrid to a 2-0 win at the Santiago Bernabeu in the Champions League.
RB Leipzig started with an attacking move inside the fifth minute of the game with no one else than Christopher Nkunu who drilled a shot towards Real Madrid’s goal post thanks to the alertness of Thibaut Courtois.
Real Madrid did not experience the best of nights in the first half with six goal attempts and no shot on goal with the home team lacking precision for the entire first 45 minutes of the clash.
Leipzig was fortunate not to have conceded a penalty following a heavy challenge on Luka Modric in the box, The European Champion was held to a goalless first half.
Real Madrid finally found a way around the defence of Leipzig following a cheeky pass to Federico Valverde in the box, the Uruguayan hit the ball with great precision to break the deadlock with 10 minutes left to play.
Marco Asensio got to the end of Toni Kroos’ freekick to make it 2-0 for Real Madrid.
Real Madrid will be away to Atletico Madrid at Wanda Metropolitano in the La Liga while RB Leipzig will face Borrussia Monchengladbach in the Bundesliga.
