The reason why Super Eagles legend Sunday Oliseh quits German club SV Straelen after five games in charge as head coach.
The 47-year-old former Nigeria national team boss was appointed in June 2022 after staying out of coaching for a long time with his last managerial job with Dutch side Fortuna Sittard ending on 14 February 2018.
Oliseh resigned as the head coach of German side SV Straelen after his team was beaten 2-0 by Fortuna Dusseldorf II in the German Regionalliga at Paul-Janes-Stadion last weekend as he was miffed by his players’ display.
The 1994 Africa Cup of Nations winner informed the club president Hermann Tecklenburg via a phone conversation over his decision to quit after only two months in charge.
The Sporting director Kevin Wolze confirmed the exit of Oliseh via SV Straelen’s official website by stating: “Sunday obviously had the feeling the team’s target for the season could no longer be reached.
“We have to accept this decision because it doesn’t make sense to try to persuade him to continue.
“The search for a successor is not easy and obviously things have changed in the meantime. We started the season with five defeats and are currently bottom of the table.
“In the next few days we will be receiving a number of applications. The players and I will have to focus on the next assignment. We don’t have the opportunity to worry about other things.”
The result was his fifth defeat in five games as they sit bottom of the table in the German 4th division having scored just one goal and conceded seven, to the expected displeasure of the former Super Eagles captain.
SV Straelen were also eliminated in the first round of the DFB Pokal, losing 3-4 at MSV-Arena to 2 Bundesliga side FC St. Pauli.
Wolze is temporarily in charge of the team pending the appointment of a new manager and Oliseh who has managed Super Eagles, Dutch side Fortuna Sittard and Verviétois in the past.
