Casillas played for Real Madrid for 16 years and has an illustrious career with Los Blancos winning several major honours such as five La Liga titles and three Champions League crowns.

Casillas also won the World Cup and two European Championships with the Spanish national team, making 167 appearances for his country in total.

Casillas remained one of the best goalkeepers in his generation, having won many awards during his best days he would be applauded for his courage here and hope this will make it easier for other high-profile footballers and athletes to go public about their sexuality in future!
