Rivers United and three other Nigeria Professional Football League handed a tough opponent for the upcoming 2022-23 CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup for the first preliminary round.
The Port Harcourt-based club won the domestic league for the first time in their history with four games to spare, while Plateau United came season in the 2022 NPFL campaign.
The draws were announced by the Confederations of African Football (CAF) on Tuesday night.

Rivers United will face Watanga FC of Liberia in the first preliminary round of the CAF Champions League to be played between September 9-18, but if Pride of Rivers scales through to the next round then have to play off against defending champion Wydad Casablanca of Morocco to get to the money-spinning group rounds of the competition.
Plateau United were drawn against Stade Mandji of Gabon in the first preliminary rounds are expected to hold between 9-11th September, with the return games slated for 16-18th September
Should the Jos side surmount this hurdle, they will have to battle the Esperance of Tunisia for a place in the group stage.
In the CAF Confederation Cup which draws take place after the CAF Champions League own as Remo Stars tackle ASFAR of Morocco and Kwara United take on AS Dunes of Niger Republic.

The second preliminary round holds between October 7 and 9 with the second legs billed for the following weekend.
