Super Eagles hopeful Folarin Balogun has clinched Ligue 1’s Best Young Player award for August after becoming a nightmare to defenders and goalkeepers.

The 21-year-old of Nigerian descent has struggled for game-time for Arsenal with only appearances for Mikel Arteta’s side the last term in all competitions before he spend half of last season at Middlesbrough.

Balogun decided to join French club Reims last month on a season-long loan from Emirate Stadium in search of regular playing time.

The American-born striker has no obligation to remain in Stade Auguste Delaune permanently next summer and hit the ground running in Logie 1 after he contributed six goals already.

Balogun has found the back of the net on five occasions and created one assist from six appearances in Ligue 1 encounters as he stands in third place in goalscoring chat behind PSG duo of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe.

Super Eagles’ eligible goalscoring exploits saw him named the winner of Ligue 1’s Best Young Player award for August.

Balogun made a history after equalling Jacques Vergnes’ 1975 record becoming the first player to score in his first three Ligue 1 appearances.

Arsenal Academy graduate turns 21 in July is still eligible to respresent the Super Eagles despite featuring for U21 England at the international level.
