Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers shines as Ola Aina’s Torino continued their strong start to the campaign with a 2-1 victory over Cremonese at Stadio Giovanni Zini on Saturday evening.
The hosts were still looking for their first point of the season after back-to-back defeats as the Nigerian duo of Cyril Dessers and David Okereke partner upfront for Cremonese once again, while Aina started in defense for Torino.
Torino took the lead after a chaotic move pin-balling around the six-yard box until Nikola Vlasic’s effort took another deflection off Matteo Bianchetti ahead in the 17th minute.
Summer signing Dessers had his effort denied by a fine Milinkovic-Savic save as the newly Serie A promoted side Cremonese side tried to equalise.
Nemanja Radonjic doubled Torino’s lead in the 65th minute after the Serbian started and finished the move, spreading the play for Mergim Vojvoda down the left and making the run so he was ready to tap in from six yards.
Cremonese reduce the deficit to one goal with a sensational finish from Leonardo Sernicola after Nigeria international Dessers knocked down the long ball to the Italian defender who hit it on the half-volley bend into the far top corner with ten minutes to the end of the tie.
Dessers came close to an equaliser, turning wide at the near post from a Cristian Buonaiuto free kick.
The result leaves Cremonese in 19th, with no points after three games, while Aina’s Torino third on the log table with seven points.
