Super Falcons striker Asisat Oshoala to battle 19 other players for the 2022 Women’s Ballon d’Or, according to France Football.

The 27-year-old Ikorodu-born forward was nominated for the award after she had a marvellous season last term with Barcelona Femeni where she banged in 20 goals in 19 league appearances to clinch the golden boot in Spain.

Oshoala won the Pichichi despite not featuring for three months of the campaign due to recurring injuries.

The Barcelona Femeni striker Oshoala recently clinch the biggest award in her continent some weeks ago after she was crowned the African Women’s Player of the Year alongside new Bayern Munich forward Sadio Mane for the men after helping Senegal to win the first Africa Cup of Nations title.

Oshoala won the Women’s Player of the Year for a record fifth time, overtaking Super Falcon legend Perpetua Nkwocha.

Former Arsenal and Liverpool star missed 2022 WAFCON after she sustain an injury during Nigeria’s opening game against South Africa at the 2022 WAFCON where the Super Falcons ended in fourth place.

Oshoala was nominated alongside 19 other players including Chelsea’s Mille Bright, Alex Morgan of the USA, and the France quartet of Selma Bacha, Kadidiatou Diani, Wendie Renard, and Marie Katoto.

Others are Alexandra Popp, Aitana Bonmatí, Beth Mead, Marie-Antoinette Katoto, Trinity Rodman, Lucy Bronze, Sam Kerr, Alexia Putellas, Catarina Macario Christiane Endler, Lena Oberdorf and Ada Hegerberg.

The Super Falcons become the first African female player to be nominated as faces a strong list of great footballers who have had excellent accomplishments in the year 2022.

Oshoala is expected to lead Nigeria to the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
