The unexpected could happen in the La Liga this season with the race for the top four open as ever than it used to be in the past.

Atletico Madrid and Sevilla are struggling to keep pace with the rest of the La Liga heavy weights.

Real Madrid and Barcelona are always the pacesetters in the league and the likes of Atletico Madrid and Sevilla will also do battle for third and fourth place but this season seems to be heading in another direction with both teams enduring a slow start to the season and have given room to the likes of Real Betis and Athletic Bilbao to excel which has increased the likelihood that these two teams could miss out on the qualification of European Cup unless they brace up for the remainder of the season.

Sevilla was held to a 1-1 draw against Villarreal at the Ceramica Stadium while Atletico Madrid suffered a defeat at home against Real Madrid on Sunday evening in the La Liga.

Atletico Madrid has 10 points from six games while Sevilla has five points from six games, both are eight and thirteen points behind the league leader Real Madrid.

They can still make up for their poor form because the season is just still young and just six games have been played so far.

Real Madrid will take on Osasuna, Sevilla and Atletico Madrid will lock horns, Barcelona will play Real Mallorca, Athletic Bilbao will host Almeria and Real Betis will be away to Celta Vigo, these matches are key in the title race and qualification for the Champions League for teams not in the race to win the league.
