Harry Kane set a new record as Tottenham Hotspurs beat Wolves 1-0 to climb the top of the Premier League table for now on Saturday at early kick-off.

Antonio Conte’s men come into the matchday three encounter beat after beating Southampton in their opener and battled to a 2-2 draw against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge last weekend, but they struggled to get going in a quiet first half against a still-winless Wolves.

Bruno Lage’s side restricted the hosts to just one 45th-minute effort and was unfortunate to see record signing Matheus Nunes nod Ruben Neves’ probing pass inches wide of the Tottenham Hotspur goal.

Conte’s half-time pep talk saw how the North London outfit stepped things up in the second half and was rewarded after 64 minutes when Kane met full debutant Ivan Perisic’s flick-on and nodded in from close range.

England skipper scores his 250th goal for Spurs and his 185th in the Premier League as he moved him above Manchester City legend Sergio Aguero (184) outright with the most goals for a single club in the English topflight.

The win sees Conte’s Tottenham Hotspurs climb to the top table with seven points.
