Napoli have provided an injury update on Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen ahead of their UEFA Champions League group stage opener against Liverpool on Wednesday night.
The 23-year-old Nigeria international has already scored two goals and managed an assist in the five Serie A matches played.
Osimhen suffered a muscle injury during the latter stages of Napoli’s 2-1 win over Lazio on Saturday at Stadio Olimpico but the former Lille star is doubtful for the Champions League game against Liverpool on Wednesday at Diego Armando Maradona Stadium.
Napoli sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli has downplayed the injury worries surrounding the leading striker as he revealed that the Super Eagles star only has a small discomfort and no injury.
Speaking in an interview with Kiss Kiss Napoli (via Tutto Napoli), Giuntoli said, “He (Osimhen) has a little discomfort in the adductor, there is no injury, it is a fatigue that he must manage together with the doctor and decide a few hours of the game with Liverpool if it is appropriate to risk or not.”
Osimhen may not feature for Napoli against Liverpool after helping Parthenopean secured a place for the 2022-23 Champions League campaign by scoring 14 goals as Luciano Spalletti’s men clinch the third spot in Serie A last term.
Super Eagles striker last featured in the Champions League two years ago during his time at Lille.
