United States of America battle Nigeria’s women’s u-17 national team for a place in the semifinal of the FIFA u-17 Women’s World Cup at DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.
The Stars and Stripes won Group A with seven points after winning two, drawing one, and losing none of their games.
Nigeria reached the quarterfinal stage for only the fourth time in their history after finishing as runners-up in Group B.

This marks the first-ever match between the USA and Nigeria in a FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
This will be the USA’s second consecutive meeting with an African team in this tournament after facing just three African teams in the previous four tournaments: Cameroon (3-0 win in 2018), Ghana (2-1 loss in 2016) and Gambia (6-0 win in 2012).
The Stars and Stripes played 1-1 draw with Brazil was sandwiched between comprehensive 8-0 and 4-0 victories against India and Morocco, respectively.
The 13 goals scored by the USA during group play were the most by any team in the competition, and the red, white, and blue won the group for the first time in five appearances at the U-17 Women’s World Cup.
NIGERIA
Nigeria defeated New Zealand and Chile and lost to Germany to amass six points from three games.
This is the sixth U-17 Women’s World Cup for Nigeria and the Bankole Olowokoore-tutored girls have reach the quarterfinals in three of the past five tournaments.
Opeyemi Ajakaya led Nigeria in scoring during qualifying with six goals.
