Flourish Sabastine was on target as Falconet beat France 1-0 in the ongoing FIFA Under 20 Women’s World Cup at Estadio Nacional de Costa Rica, San José.

The Falconets started brightly in their Group D opener and almost went ahead first 10 minutes as striker Sabastine threatened to work her way into the France goal but the French defence swiftly cleared the ball from danger.

The game was stopped exactly at the 20-minute mark as a heavy downpour affected the players’ vision and the camera.

Sabastine was the hero on the day for the Falconets as she scored in the 85th minute to give the Nigerian U20 side the perfect start.

Receiving the ball on the halfway line, Mercy Idoko then sent Sabastine through on goal with the latter slotting past the keeper.

France had the ball at the back of the net with 10 minutes left, but after consultations with VAR, the goal was overturned for a foul on Falconets keeper Omini Oyono.

The Falconets will now face South Korea in their next group game on Sunday.
