Randy Waldrum has named Barcelona Femini striker Asisat Oshoala and Leicester defender Ashleigh Plumptre plus 20 other players for the Super Falcons international friendly match against Japan in Kobe on Thursday, October 6.

Oshoala returns to the Nigerian team due to the injury she suffered against Banyana Banyana of South Africa at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

Plumptre recalls after missing Super Falcons doubleheader defeat to United States of America (USWNT) with 4-0 in Kansas City and 2-1 in Washington DC in their last outing early this month.

The team is dominated by the usual suspects, but it also includes four U20 girls who advanced to the round of eight at the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup in August in Costa Rica.

Uchenna Kanu, Gift Monday, Vivian Ikechukwu, Toni Payne, Osinachi Ohale, Regina Otu, Halimatu Ayinde, Ngozi Okobi-Okeoghene, and first-choice goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie all retain their place in the squad.

However, Onome Ebi, Francisca Ordega, Rita Chikwelu Nicole Oyeyemisi Payne, Anam Imo, Chidimma Okeke, Christy Ucheibe and Anam Imo all miss out.

The Super Falcons continue to face high-profile competition ahead of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup finals in Australia and New Zealand.
